I’m excited to announce that I just published my first zine, titled “Land Of God”! It’s comprised of 19 photos from my trip to Morocco in April 2015. If you’d like to support the blog, the zine is available for purchase on my site here.
The title “Land Of God” comes from a possible translation of Marrakech, the fourth most populous city in Morocco and where we spent most of our time. It also references the Arabic phrase “inshallah”, which means “if God wills” – a phrase we heard quite a bit during our time there.
What is a zine? A zine is essentially a short, self-published work of text and/or images. Zines are a big part of the DIY community/culture.
One of my artistic goals in 2018 was to start publishing zines. I’ve come around to strongly believing that photography is best consumed in the form of projects – i.e., a grouping of specifically chosen and ordered images intended to tell a story or convey an idea. And it’s hard to put to words, but there is something very different about experiencing your photos in a printed format. Even if you don’t go as far as publishing a zine or a book, I highly encourage all photographers to occasionally make physical prints of their photos.
The process through which I published this zine will be the topic of a later blog post. But long story short – it’s probably a lot easier than you think.
Here are some selected images from “Land Of God”.
